Yuck, I hate fire season. We've got a few good ones going up here in Washington state too.

Eek! Good luck over there!
Folks around here are are definitely hyper-aware. Understandable with significant devastation due to fires in recent years.
We're still relative noobs around here but the tension is palpable.

My wife and I lived "next door" to you in Marin County in the 1980s. I guess there were small fires sometimes, but I don't remember thinking much about them. Not sure if we were young and foolish, or if things really have changed that much. Probably both...

Not necessarily foolish (but maybe!).
Now we have near-instant info relayed via internet + effects of global climate shift. So... very different time/place.

And now we have a much more red sunset than I've seen in a while.
Smoke in the distance.

"In the distance" is a good thing.
If you don't have enough stressful apps in your life yet, PulsePoint has been useful for us. It reports all local fire/ambulance calls, and you can select specific incident types (e.g. "Vegetation Fire") to trigger an audible alert. Looks like Sonoma County is covered. There's also a web version at
https://web.pulsepoint.org/
